The Soil and the Sun are, of course, great partners in the mystery that is creating life, making things grow.  Out of Grand Rapids, MI, Alex, Ashley, Benjamin, and Kellen make music in the delicate balance between simplicity and complexity.  Through soaring vocal melodies, ethereal synth textures, driving guitars, and pulsing electro-organic rhythms, these four friends explore the human condition and reach for greater meaning.

“One of the most ambitious albums of the year. A vivid landscape of sonic scenery, Meridian will overtake your senses by constantly reshaping itself into an enigmatic chasm of ever-changing melodies.” — Paste Magazine

“The Grand Rapids, Michigan group, fronted by Alex McGrath, paints memorable walks through places known for solitude, places known for uncontaminated water, wild flowers and grasses and flattened beds that are still warm from the deer that slept on them the night before. They make you blush with the ways that they’re able to tie all of the most natural of beauties together into these significant and lush songs.” — Daytrotter

Mammoth Indigo is Cody Bowers, Eric Singer, Dan McDonough, and Adam Vaagen; an indie rock band originally from Richmond, VA. They independently-released their self-titled debut album in August of 2013 to overwhelming response from indie music critics for its visceral appeal and Bowers' haunting vocals.

The band is currently recording their sophomore album in Williamsburg, VA. In an interview as Sonicbids' Spotlight Artist, Bowers stated that there has been “a spooky trend” to the new record, whose release date is currently TBA by the band.

Illiterate Light is an indie rock duo comprised of Jeff Gorman and Jake Cochran.  Gorman and Cochran have collaborated on different projects over the past six years - writing and touring with their previous band Money Cannot Be Eaten, managing a small organic farm in the Shenandoah Valley, organizing bicycle tours, among other things.  Illiterate Light is the culmination of their work together.  Washed-out guitar sounds, droning synth bass, tight vocal harmonies, spacious and rock drumming.  They write about paradox and the desire to go beyond modern and postmodern hermeneutical rules  in regards to historical doctrine and mystical texts.

After a recent show at Strange Matter in Richmond, a man named Ashby said “they sound like Dr. Dog interpreting Paul Simon.”  Another man said “I was tracking with them, and I knew exactly where we were going, and I was digging it.  And then all of a sudden I didn’t know where we were or where we were going, and it sounded really cool.”
